Celebrant or Registrar?
Which is better? Maybe this will help you decide...
Celebrant ceremonies are free from restriction which means you can get married, anytime, anywhere (yep really!), and exactly in the way you want to.
Want to involve family members? Sure! Symbolic rituals? Definitely! Mixing traditions from your different cultures and religions? Sure thing! The possibilities are endless...
This means you get a truly personalised ceremony that includes all the elements you want and that really tells your story in a way that shows off your personality. Plus, your celebrant will put a whole load of love into giving you the most special wedding ceremony that you will remember forever!
When it comes to registrar ceremonies it's a very different story. You can only get married in a licensed venue and the script is the same for every single couple. You also won't be allowed to include any religious elements and you won't meet your register until the day!
The advantage is, registrars can perform the legal aspect and a celebrant can't. BUT this shouldn't stop you from having a celebrant. You can very easily tick off this legal side by going to a register office before your wedding and still have a celebrant on the day (see next FAQ).
For all the fun, personalisation and joy a celebrant ceremony will give you and your guests... it's a no-brainer really!
Can you legally marry us?
No, but....
At the moment celebrants can't legally marry couples in the UK, but fear not, there's a simple solution to this!
To tick off the legal side you will need to pop a booking in for a basic legal ceremony called a 2+2 at a register office (most do this a week before their ceremony). The only people to attend will be yourselves, your two witnesses and the registrars.
This simply involves saying a couple of sentences and signing a bit of paperwork. That's it! This means you can save all of the special bits like exchanging rings and saying vows for your wonderfully personal celebrant ceremony with all of your friends and family!
You will also have to do something called giving notice, which is just signing another piece of paperwork to say that you intend to get married. All in all, the whole process will cost between £120-150 (depending on where you live) and I will happily help you along the way! Easy peasy!
Can you help me write my vows?
Of course I can! I give all my couples an amazing guide to help write their vows and I'm always available to book one on one sessions for extra help and rehearsals.
For those who really struggle, with a bit of help from you, I can even write them for you!
My Christianity is really important to me, can it be reflected in my ceremony?
Yes, of course it can. It is your wedding ceremony and therefore should reflect your beliefs and values. Many couples have included hymns, Bible readings, and prayers in their wedding ceremony. Likewise, couples of other denominations have incorporated religious elements of significance to them. The amount of religious content you have in your ceremony is your decision.
What locations do you cover?
I am based in Somerset and cover the whole of the Southwest, the UK, and abroad.
How far do you travel?
No limit!
I will happily travel across the country (or abroad!), so please feel free to get in touch if your wedding is further afield.
